Using the Library

Everyone is welcome to join the library! You do not need any ID, just complete this form and pop it down to us during opening hours. Alternatively you can start your registration online here and then simply visit the library to finish the process and pick up your library card.

Under 16s need an adult to act as a guarantor for them, so you will need to accompany your child in order for them to become a library member.

Once you have your library card, you can borrow up to 20 books for 3 weeks at a time, but you can renew them up to 20 times providing they have not been requested by another user. You will also have access to free online resources such as e-books, audiobooks, newspapers and magazines.

Late returns on an adult card will incur a fine of 35p per item, per day and on a child card (5-10) and young adult card (11-17) of 5p per item per day. Children under 5 are exempt from charges, so if you are borrowing books for your children, make sure you borrow them on a child's card to avoid unexpected charges.

You can use your card at any Northamptonshire library and you can also return books to any library, regardless of where in the county you borrowed them from.

Renewing Items

If you registered an email address when your account was set up, you should receive a courtesy email a few days before your books are due for return. This will give you time to renew your items if you wish.

There are lots of ways to renew.

To renew online or on the apps, you will need to log in to your account using your card number (the one that starts with a D) and your PIN.
If you cannot remember you PIN you can request a new one here.

Other Useful Resources

Becoming a library member opens up a wealth of online resources to you.

The Northamptonshire Library Plus app allows you to check your library account, look for items on the library catalogue, request and renew items - all from the comfort of your armchair!
(download from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store)
It also has the great benefit of storing your library card barcode (and that of any others associated to your account) so that you always have the convenience of using the self service kiosks even if you have left your cards at home.

The Borrowbox, and Pressreader apps allow you to read e-books, newspapers and magazines and listen to audiobooks for free. Just download the apps onto your smartphone or tablet, select 'Northamptonshire Libraries' and log in with your card details - and away you go! Please note that you cannot use these apps on an original Kindle, but they do work on a Kindle Fire tablet.
